CASTLETOWN
Prospective trials were made on this lead + zinc deposit by John Taylor
& Co in 1838, no doubt as part of their regional prospecting in connection
with their mining operations at Kilbricken
and Ballyhickey. One reference notes 20
men were working at this site in 1844, along with a steam engine, and
elsewhere it is speculated that this may be the mine of the same name,
which the Mining Company of Ireland abandoned in 1845.
