Spancill Hill, Co. Clare

SPANCILL HILL

The Spancil Hill calcite deposit was worked for a period in the 1950s/1960s, before it was abandoned. All the presently visible remains, shown in the accompanying photographs, date from that period, including the pit; derelict crane; and powder magazine.
